Log Cabins Scotland recommend that you protect your investment with good quality stains and paints for exterior or interior protection by using Sikkens quality translucent and opaque timber woodstain systems.
Exterior Woodstain Systems

Cetol Novatech
A high solids, medium to high build, solvent-borne woodstain that gives a translucent, semi-gloss finish. Can be used both as a base stain and a finishing coat.
Use:
Finishing coat: Exterior softwood and hardwood substrates such as cladding, fascias, soffits, rough sawn timber.
Base Stain: Exterior softwood and hardwood joinery, windows and doors.
Not suitable for interior use, or on 'oily' timbers such as iroko or teak.

Interior Finish

Troll Floor Varnish
Matt, Semi-Gloss or Gloss
This product is a top quality elastic varnish specially suited to soft woodfloors.
Coverage: 10-12 m²/litre
Application:
2—3 coats on floors. For a hard wearing surface use gloss first. Finish with your choice as top coat. Ideal as top coat for wet-rooms, over natural stains, over fire retardants and intumescent paints.

Natural Wood Oil
A natural warm wood look. Can be supplied with white tint for use on ceilings to achieve a light finish.
Coverage: 12-15 m²/litre
Prime with TimberWhite & WhiteWash to get a light finish and stop mellowing.
Application:
1 to 2 coats depending on wear and tear. After 5 to 6 years, apply mixture of TimberWhite and WhiteWash, before renewing one coat of wood oil.

Natural & White Wood Soap
Scandinavians have for centuries used a natural alkaline wood soap as protection. This keeps the wood moist.
Coverage: 15-16 m²/litre
For ceiling and walls (not wet rooms)
Prime with TimberWhite & WhiteWash to get a light finish and stop mellowing.
Appliation:
1 to 2 coats depending on wear and tear. After 5 to 6 years, apply mixture of TimberWhite and WhiteWash, before renewing 1-2 coats of wood soap.

TimberWhite
TimberWhite is a light bleaching agent which will lighten the timber back to its new sawn look. It will also remove light stains and marks from transport and handling of the wood.
Coverage: 12-14 m²/litre
Application:
Spray on one coat and let dry. To clean and stop mellowing mix 50/50 with WhiteWash and spray on the timber and let dry.

WhiteWash
WhiteWash is a product containing a modified lye, and will hold back the natural mellowing of the wood. This means a longer life to the fresh natural look of the wood.
Coverage: 12-14 m²/litre
Application:
Spray on one coat and let dry. To clean and stop mellowing mix 50/50 with TimberWhite and spray on to the timber and let dry.

Blue Rinse (bio-degradable wood cleaner)
Wood Rinse Blue is a special product that is used for the cleaning of old and dirty woodwork, to remove oil, grease, soot, algae, black fungus and other dirt.

Fire Proofing
Log Cabins Scotland offers a comprehensive range of intumescent coatings for wood and wood related surfaces. These coatings have been extensively used in many buildings including Buckingham palace and Cambridge University. When applied according to the instructions these coatings offer an outstanding finish whilst meeting fire protection requirements. All have been tested to the relevant British standard.

ESVFR CLEAR
The ES/VFR system offers a clear or white coating suitable for upgrading wood and wood related surfaces to comply with class 0 and class 1 of UK building regulations. The ES/VFR system is suitable for use over most substrates including new timber. Water based and quick drying.

ESVFR WHITE

HW – 01
The HW system offers a range of clear or white coatings designed to upgrade new and existing timber substrates offering up to 30 or 60 minutes of fire protection to meet UK building regulations. This system can be applied to new substrates and over existing paint and varnishes.
