Do I need planning permission?

In most cases you do not need planning permission to build a log cabin in your garden, providing it meets the following criteria,

(1) the building is not in the grounds of a listed building or in a conservation or special area.
(2) the cabin is not closer to the highway than your house or is within 20m of the nearest highway.
(3) the cabin is not within 5m of your house (unless its volume is less than 10m cubed).
(4) the height of the roof ridge does not exceed 4m.
(5) the footprint of the building does not cover more than 50% of the grounds surrounding your house.
(6) the footprint of the building does not exceed 30 sq m.
(7) the cabin is for the use of the occupants of the main house.

If their is any doubt though, you should always contact your local planning authority before begining work.

 

What sort of base is required?

There are various ways depending on size, type and use of the building.

1. Blocks on leveled gravel/hardcore
2. Blocks + heavy timber on gravel / hardcore
3. Brick / concrete block
4. Slabs to perimmeter
5. Concrete base (jaccussi or tiled floor)

 

What wall thickness?

Heaviest for most use to light for garden or occasional buildings. 38mm is good and 45mm is better. Tack do up to 90mm (on wall thickness)..

 

Timber Treatment

Nearly all cabins come totaly untreated for different tastes worldwide, so you must pick a stain and be ready to treat your cabin as soon as possible after contruction. Give it two coats the possibly one coat every other year and your cabin should last indefinately. We recommend Solignum stains.

What deposit is required?

1/3rd deposit of total price with balance being due 14-7 days prior to delivery. Payments by credit card will be charged a 3% transaction charge.

 

Can you fit cabins?

At the moment we can fit in Scotland only, but we are available for advice and tips.
